THERE >> AIN'T NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH! ... >> Tom Condon Sigh. My point was, IF gov't is going to spend, THEN it has to tax. I too would like to see less spending. Reagan, in amassing that grotesque deficit, has shown that he doesn't understand how an economy works. As for arms control (Tom spoke highly of Reagan's "get-tough" position), said "get-tough" attitude has clearly failed. Both the US and USSR are building more & more very expensive missiles. And we're building "first-strike" ones. I'm surprised you're so confident, Tom. Think about this: We put Pershings so close to the Russian borders that we give the Russians about 10 minutes from launch to impact--10 minutes to decide whether we really are attacking. So, their next logical step should be to fully computerize their warning systems. Wouldn't you? Well, now let's consider how big those programs are--100,000 lines? 1,000,000? Bug-free, of course. Well, relax Tom. At the rate we're going, they may get the thing to what we in the biz call "system test". But back to taxes. Do they hurt you so bad, Tom? Another 4 years of Reagan will put such a dent in the Bill of Rights it might take decades to undo the damage. Choose judges for their stand on abortion? You bet they will--legal qualifications be damned. So, just how much are you selling your birthright, your freedoms--America's true greatness--for? $100? $1000? The Dems boring old business as usual is a horrible alternative, but it's merely stupid, not insane. You know, I figured out what Reagan saved me on my 1983 taxes, what I got for his union-busting, falling asleep, Jerry Falwell, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Asst. Sec. of State who didn't know where Zimbabwe was (and probably still doesn't), and his waspish sense of humor. You know how much? $30! Isn't that prophetic? -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 24 Aug 84 [7 Fructidor An CXCII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7261 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!ihuxq!ken *** ***
