Lines: 107 Well now, I have just finished reading Mr. Sevener's latest diatribe against the Republican party in Net.politics. I am going to flame him so I am putting this in net.flame as he knows next to nothing about party politics as far as I can see. First He talks about myopia, delusion, and intolerance in the Republican party that remind him of the 30's in Germany. What I don't understand is why he didn't watch the Democratic convention? Was there anything different? No there was not. I suggest that Sevener has a very bad case of paranoia, plus a dose of the three characteristics he attributes to the Republicans. He seems to be bothered by the cheering that went on during the festivities. Does he mean to say that there was NO cheering at the Democratic convention? I watched the Democrats in convention and seem to recall one hell of a lot more cheering going on in that one. Does he mean to suggest that people who cheer and are enthusiastic about something are somehow to be suspected of harboring tendancies akin to the pre-world war II Germans? For shame, Sevener, your intolerance for other ideas and views is showing. You mention 'blind fanatisism'. Do you mean to say that the cheering and huzzas for any idea or view is to be construed as 'blind fanatisism' and therefor to be taken as war-fervor? If that is what you are saying then I will have to be on my guard whenever the local high school has a pep rally. In my opinion, Sevener, your article is one of the worst examples of baiting and innuendo I have read in some time. You are doing just what you accuse others of doing by setting up the big lie, then harping on it until someone begins to believe it. You are setting yourself up as the arbitter of truth and wisdom. You attribute the setting to the born-again-christian style of leadership. Are you so dense that you cannot remember that it was Jimmy Carter that was the BAC? Are you so forgetful that you can't remember that Fritz Mondale was his cohort? Then you are so forgetful that you convieniently dismiss the fact that the ERA ammendment was defeated by a majority of Democratic legislatures. The Republican party is johnny- come-lately to its opposition to the ammendment. As for the UN, what do you know about UNESCO? Do you have any idea what it does? I suggest that you go back to your books and find out why the US pulled out. Talk about myopia. BTW it was Carter's idea in the first place, at the urging of Moynahan. Why should American tax dollars be used to fund Radio stations in Communist countries? As for your claptrap about population explosions. Bullfeathers. Again, I ask, if I do not believe in abortion as a method of birth control, why should I be forced to fund abortion clinics in Lower Slobovia? You call this right-wing thinking. Well you have got your head up where the sun don't shine because I see people from all walks of life and all political persuassions thinking the same way. I really feel sorry for Sevener. He does not seem to have the ability to understand that he is accusing others of saying and doing things that he is doing and saying himself. What gets me started the most, though, is his trying to equate everything he disagrees with with the 'nazis'. This is an all too common ploy among some of the net contributors. The sad fact is, most of them do not even know what the nazis stood for. They have never bothered to find out either. They just throw the term out for effect, trying to cover their ignorance about the subject they are railing against. It is a convienient label to tack onto their diatribes to try and win points. Well, it won't work. If all you can do is call something nazism just because you disagree, then I for one will consider whatever you say in your Article, the ramblings of stupid ass. If you can't talk to the issues without resorting to wild-eyed labeling of your opponents, then you had better make sure the Article does not show up here because I intend to take the other side no matter if I agree or not. There have been two articles this week labeling the Republican convention as nazis. The articles refered to the cheering and exuberence being shown by the delagates. Thus, by inference, any group that cheers is nazi. They did not refer to why the Republicans were cheering, they only said they were cheering and thus must be nazis. By further inference, the Democrats, Olympic spectators, United Auto Workers, NOW, 2-million parade watchers in New York, and Mets fans must be nazis because they were happy or excited about something. At the Republican convention, they were excited and cheering because they were just excited. Remember, there was not too much exciting about the convention as the ticket was already decided. Its kind of hard to drum up enthusiasm at a convention where you are only going through the motions of voting. Wait till next time if you want cheering. The folks went to Dallas to have a good time. And if you don't think that's what they go for, you have your head in the sand. Conventions are not quiet, somber affairs, they never have been. They are designed to bring together the party leaders and hopefuls to pump up enthusiasm for the campaign ahead. Cheering is part of that pumping up. So, Sevener, why don't you please put a lid on this nazi crap you have been polluting the net with. If you want to talk issues, then do so. Do you know what the issues are? Can you write a sentence without using the words right-wing or nazi? Can you supress your hatred and intolerance long enough to conduct a reasoned discussion? Flame away. T. C. Wheeler
