I was 5th level, 38 hp, a +2 +1 mace, a good supply of food, two healing potions, two scrolls of monster confusion, and a staff that I hadn't identified. I was running around level 5 when I noticed my hp were low. (Must have run into an awfully lucky snake!) So I started being REAL careful. I found a scroll and read it. The computer cooly printed out the statement: You hear a hig-pitched humming noise. I almost screamed. Well, snakes, emus, and a few zombies started pouring out from the doorways. I managed to fight most of them off and ran away from two bats that were trying to finish me off. I decided that any and all monsters on this level were going to find me sooner or later, so I started exploring again. I ran into a rattlesnake. He cornered me. I started to fight when a kestrel decided to help him out. Well, I quickly quaffed both healing potions and read one of my confusion scrolls and hit the rattler. He moved over and a previously hidden orc stepped up in his place. So now I was surrounded. I hit the orc and he bit it then I ran for the door. I made it and killed the kestrel. I started to wander around again, with monsters popping up to make sure my hit points stayed at a nice 14 or so. Then I ran into my rattler friend, who was not pleased at my narrow escape. But luck was on my side this time and I killed him. As he died, he spit up an agate ring. I tucked it away, hoping to use it when I needed it. I went down to the next level, and managed to regain all my hit points. But then a lucky *ss rattle snake took me down from 38 to 7 hp and WAS STILL KICKING! I backed up a few paces and took a shot at him again. Well, it worked. He crumbled to the ground. I decided that I needed to put on that ring I was saving. I checked it and it wasn't cursed, so I kept it on. (I still don't know what it was....) I took a few more steps into the room and came face to face with a zombie. I did what any good, logical, cool-headed rogueist would do. I got the h*ll out. I ran down a hallway with the creature breathing down my neck the whole time and wound up in a room with only one door and a kestrel. I took a swipe at the zombie and he croaked. But I only had 8 hp. I backed up to the wall and started hitting the kestrel. I was down to 1 hp. I looked in my pack and found the staff. I fired it at the beastie. The room is lit with a shimmering blue light. Well, I went down with a nice fireworks display, at least. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Why don't they make more staves of fireballs?!?!?! (Sorry about the length) Markus the bare-footed Golem-rider
