Just to set the record straight:  Wands of Haste Monsters can be useful!
Example:  you have 27 hp, and ...

	|......T...|
	|.....Y..@.+
	|..........|
	------------

a) -2 Ring Mail (being worn)
b) +1 Plate Mail
c) a wand of Haste Monster
...

What do you do?  Why, you zap the Yeti so he outruns the Troll, duck into
the corridor, and change your armor.  The Yeti beats on you a little, but
you'll probably survive.
