These are companies that are rich in assets and small in price (low P/E). O Should your company be taken over, hold back a few shares in the hope that the company will buy them back from you at a ridiculous price (should they want to go private etc). O You might consider buying stock in a company that is being taken over. Should the takeover bid fail, higher stock prices may prevail for the takeover target.
