A better reason for editing the from field, is that the message may be
"from" more than one person.  For example, a friend and I write a neat
hack and we send out a piece of mail describing it and make it from both
of us.  (It is true though, that only one process is the "sender" and an
explicit sender:  field seems appropriate when the from field has been
hacked by the user.)
