As someone mentioned, you get these kind of advertisements every day of your life. It's only realistic that they show up in contemporary movies. I defy you to go through one day of life without seeing a brand name logo of some kind (chances are you're looking at one right now (the one on your terminal)). Also, if the film-maker doesn't compromise the story to accomodate brand name displays he might as well get money for it. We benefit as well. It's a new and harmless way of raising money to make the film. Extremely high prices are paid for those displays, and the increased guaranteed revenue means the producer can afford a little more (better actors, better stories, better technical support, and perhaps a bit more time to do it right (maybe even cheaper ticket prices)). I think most of these ads have been done with minimal artistic sacrifice. I agree completely though that ads shown before the movie are not acceptable. db (UUCP) {decvax, ucbvax, allegra}!decwrl!rhea!orphan!blickstein (ARPA) decwrl!rhea!orphan!blickstein@Berkeley decwrl!rhea!orphan!blickstein@SU-Shasta
