I spent all day visiting over 2000 robotic displays at McCormick Place in Chicago last week at the International Machine Tool Show. Let's talk about sub-groups while we're into "net.robots" - we will definitely need a "net.robots.vision", a field akin to and as growing as big as the mechanical manipulators. Inspection for manufacture is a biggie for vision. I saw a Seiko robot pick up drill bits, hold them in front of a camera, and within 100 msec it had decided if the bit was within +/- 0.005. It then disposed of the bit in the "too big", "too small", or "just right" bin. This stuff is hot and saves *big* bucks!!! Let's do it!! Randy King AT&T-CP@MG ihnp4!mgweed!rjk
