The apparent colours are constructed by the visual system. If a full colour slide is projected along- side, the original looks washed-out. As I remember, the image used is some real-life scene, where knowledge of what colour trees, sky, people etc. are aids the active perception process. One would expect the 'FULL COLOR' effect to be eliminated if an unfamiliar geometrical pattern were used instead. Any discussion of how light frequencies appear to the eye is in the domain of psychology, not physics. Bob Leiser.
