Thanks to the efforts of Anthony Comstock and others, that era regarded
masturbation with the same affection as the McCarthy era regarded the
Soviet Menace.  Parents were frantic with fears that their children might
take up masturbation, and so succumb to blindness, feeble-mindedness, and
general debilitude and degeneracy.

Is this attitude extinct?  I shall perhaps believe it only when the
Olympic Games include a Masturbation event.  (And I'll bet it won't be
sponsored by Kellogg's either.)

What were those shrieks I just heard?
