Center, Univ. of Texas at Austin Lines: 50 The main reason *I* have not posted on this subject before is because I've been trying to find out just what people mean by "make-up". Most of the negative comments seem to center around the over-use or MISuse of cosmetics. I hardly feel that wearing mascara and blush is some sort of cosmic crime, nor do I idolize women to have chosen the no make-up-at-all route. I believe that there is a time and a place for everything and where make-up is concerned there is also an amount. Wearing make-up is something that women have been doing for centuries. But that doesn't mean that women should go to the beach or mountian climbing looking like they just stepped out of a fashion magazine. Nor do I feel that it would be appropriate to attend a "fancy dress affair" looking "earth mother natural". The point is that there are many shades of gray in between the black and white of make-up or no, and the ONLY ones who have any right to decide whether or not TO wear it are the ones WHO wear it. If you don't like to see it, look at some one else. I DO wear make-up. But let me explain what I mean by that. I do NOT wear make-up to the beach or camping, shopping, doing housework, etc. In other words, I'm not a habitual, neurotic make-up wearer. I DO wear a light amount of make-up at work. Mostly I wear mascara and blush (accentuate the positive), and cover-up and powder (eliminate the negative, or at least minimize). I have rather translucent skin and the blood supply around my eyes makes me look like I have dark circles all the time - even though I get plenty of sleep. I am just as likely to do without the blush and powder when I have a tan as I'm likely to switch to foundation and blush in the winter. I use a water based foundation that is oil absorbing, so the ONLY thing greasy about my face it the oil it produces on its own. Having a tan tends to dry the skin - so I don't need as much help keeping down the shine in the summer. My skin is SO oily that I can see the beads start to show only 30 minutes after washing my face. Now, I don't have the time to wash this slick off my face several times during the day, hence the use of powder or foundation. As for going out on the town ... Of course I wear more make-up. Why? For the same reason I dress differently when I go out than when I'm at work. And I wear it WELL. I don't contour my face to hide what nice people call a "distintive" (and I call big) nose. I minimize it by accentuating my better features, mostly my eyes. No one has ever complained about my eyes tasting bad, the men I date (if they get to see me all duded up) are not likely to go around slobbering over me in public. And I never were make-up to ... uh ... sleep. I am also fond of lipstick, it keeps my lips from fading into the rest of my face, stops them from drying out and reminds me not to bite them (a terrible habit of mine). Unfortunately, I rarely remember to reapply it during the day, after a meal, etc. So I end up wearing it for a very small length of time. So THERE! Judy (ut-ngp!judy) We could also have a great discussion about the use (or lack) of UNDERWEAR!
