Ever tried square dancing? Besides being good wholesome fun, it's a great chance to get out there and meet MOTOS. 'Though this wasn't why I started dancing, I've met quite a number of interesting people this way. At least in the dances I frequent, there's a *VERY* mixed crowd, from late teens up to the sixtys or so (median ~26), and a cheerful, friendly atmosphere. And when the caller starts a dance, *EVERYBODY* scrambles for a partner (Definitely a situation where ladies are expected to ask gents out as much as vice versa). If you find you like your partner, ask for another dance. If not, no huhu -- you can say 'thanks' at the end of the set and go find somebody else. I've found bars or clubs with regular dances on both coasts, and most give lessons beforehand. So give it a shot...It's fun! Off the wall of Andy Oakland ( decvax!yale!oakland )
