I always thought it was because Wrigley field doesn't have sufficient
lighting to play after dark.  Of course, this brings up the obvious
question, "why don't they install sufficient lighting?"  I'd be surprised
if the design of the stadium made the installation of night lights
either impossible or very expensive, but I don't know, (I've never been
there.) maybe it does.
