I just finished rewatching "The Armageddon Factor."  I noticed
something that I missed the first three times I saw it. The Dr.
bumps into another time lord (I don't remember his name, he was the
enginner type.) who claimed to have gone to school with the Dr. 
This other time load kept calling the Dr. by the name Fred, until
the Dr. corrected him. Then this other character said, "Oh yes, you
went of and got your doctorate."  The Dr. never disputed this other
time lord's claim about their having gone to school together, or the
name FRED.

Is the Dr's real name Fred?
