I know how studio cameras using 3 or 4 video pickup tubes operate. Consumer cameras simply don't seem to have the physical size necessary to hold 3 tubes - but how do they generate the colour information with only 1 tube? The portable electronic-news-gathering type cameras seem to be about as small as I would think you'd be able to build a 3-tube camera.
