Full employment and an end to poverty for starters. Giving ALL men a sense of self-worth will (in my opinion) do more to stop violent crime than any program that intends to prevent crime by putting more authority on the street. Also, women who (justifiably) fear to random street violence should consider taking a self-defense course. Martin Minow decvax!minow ...... I mentioned the above to a friend who has done research on violence against women and she said I'm totally mistaken -- what "we" have to do is to change male socialization; change the way men think about women. This includes, for example, the way women (and male-female relationships) are portrayed in the mass-media. She doesn't think that just giving men jobs will do anything to change the way men think about women. M.
