The HPGL version of plot(3) has been fixed to cope properly with
requests for non-square plot areas:  it gives the largest plot area
possible while preserving the aspect ratio (width/height) of the
user's request.  It has also been tweaked so that the character
size remains constant as the aspect ratio of the plot changes.

While I was at it, I modified plottest(1) to add one more minor test:
a long-term registration test.  Half of a small test pattern is drawn
at the beginning of the run, and the other half is added at the end.
