These are MacWrite's formatting characters, and will go away if you explicitily save the file as Text-Only, using Save As... from the file menu. If this is not your problem, get in touch w/ me as I have successfully read from MacWrite (Text-only) documents. Hope this was some help, Carl Spitzer
