Hi folks,
I have a complaint/warning and a question.

I just bought SCRIBE for my VMS system which has an LN01
printer.  I find 2 things.

First:  Unilogic (the scribe folks) tell me that I have to
buy fonts from DEC.  Now they tell me.  I find no reference
to that anywhere.  I thought I might not because I also
have SCRIBE on my UNIX machine driving an Imprint10, for
which scribe DID supply fonts (for a price).  Well, ok, I
understand that.  But they supply a initial setup which
incorrectly talks to the default fonts that DEC does supply
with the printer.  In other words I have to dig into the
guts of the SCRIBE database/driver just to get the printer
working in what should be the default manner!!

Second:  The .LN0 file produced by SCRIBE is un-printable
in the normal way, i.e. the PRINT command.  The file is
chock-full of escape sequences (which is how the LN01 know
how to do things) - ok.  But the VMS print spooler thinks
its a good idea to throw in some carriage returns
occasionally.  Argh.  Completely messes up the output.  Ok,
I de-spool the printer and try to just copy the file
raw-like to the printer.  Since VMS thinks the file is one
long record, I promptly overflow some buffers.  So I have a
file on a "scribe-supported device" which I can't get out
to the device.  Unilogic says the problem is DEC's, DEC says
"oh yeah, that is a problem".

So I appear to be kinda-stuck.  I would appreciate it
greatly if anyone who has some insight or has gone through
this before would give me some suggestions.
