According to the railfan press (CTC Board) these locomotives were purchased from Amtrak and are now running on the Santa Fe in Southern California.. As far as I can tell none of them made it into the San Francisco Bay area yet. As for the Union Pacific, the Centennial locomotives are still running on the old Western Pacific lines into Northern California. Last night, WP Oakland yards offered UP6927 and a couple of General Electric U-boats as some of the power lying around the diesel service racks.. Rumour has it that the Southern Pacific SD45X's traded into EMD will be converted into 710-engine testbeds ? anyone in the Chicago area to confirm or deny this?
