An old (non-working) kludge for dialout stuff got taken out. The kludgey "all8b" mode for running HP laser printers has been replaced by a new "cpass" mode, done rather more cleanly; this is not fully tested yet. And the (previously undocumented, and rather peculiar) behavior of signal 0 has been modified to be simple and clean: it can now be used to test whether a process really still exists, in a safe and dependable way. Kill(1) has not yet been modified to match. -- "Where there's smoke, there's smoke. No further conclusion is justified." Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
