Reagan isn't a wimp? Somebody made the (very good) point that at least Carter tried to do something about the hostages, and nobody did get killed, whereas three times so far, we've been bombed in Lebanon and Reagan hasn't lifted a finger, either to retaliate or to to prevent it from happening again. Pretty wimpy, I'd say. Also, you seem to have a very simple-minded idea of foreign policy -- stopping communism (Leninism, that is) is the most important foreign policy goal of the US, but you can't just count governments like you are doing. Reagan has (arguably) prevented the spread of communism, but at the expense of making some of the most repressive anti-communist regiemes worse, and making it easier for the communists to take over in the future. I won't say things were better under Carter, or will be under Mondale. The fact is that since Nixon our prestige in the world has been going steadily downhill, and neither of the candidates now are likely to stop that decline. Wayne
