To me it seems like pinning the blame. Singles have felt insecure since we came down from the trees, advertising has nothing to do with it. You are confusing the cause with the effect. It is inevitable for first opinions to be based on appearance. It is also inevitable that people who aren't married would judge themselves based on popularity. Since people can not help but be affected by first opinions, appearance is going to affect popularity, which in turn effects self-opinion. Unfortunately though, this depression is often drowned in choclate bars. And the cycle goes on. The advertising industry is just following fation, which I don't think follows anything logical, except maybe a desire to fit in with the croww. They too are trying to make their product popular, and therefor too must rely on fashun (i give up! just don't tell my 4th grade english teacher) to make a good first impression. If anybody should be blamed it's the people who design fashuns; but Gloria Vandebilt is not availabe at the moment, she is busy trying to make designer Toffuti. Micha B @ AECOM
