Message-ID: <202@ganehd.UUCP> Date: Sat, 3-Nov-84 00:48:44 EST Article-I.D.: ganehd.202 Posted: Sat Nov 3 00:48:44 1984 Date-Received: Mon, 5-Nov-84 10:24:01 EST Organization: NE Health District, Athens, Georgia Lines: 24 HEAVY FLAME ON UEBERROTH: The man steps in and has a chance to right the wrongs of his predecessor. This concerns the banning of Willie Mays and (gasp) Mickey Mantle from baseball because of affiliations with hotels in Atlantic City, NJ who also run casinos. It has been proven that these men are doing promotion for the hotels and are in no way involved with the gambling operations. If this is true, why ban them? Is Major League Baseball going to legislate morality? Then Ueberroth should sanction George Steinbrenner due to his involvement with the problems at the University of Florida! General George's actions did violate rules (NCAA recruiting) and Mays and Mantle are only involved in PR. It really does not make sense! Any other comments out there, or is everyone gone until Spring Training? -- Scott A.
