I've had bad experiences with JVC VHS machines. It seems that JVC tends to go for advanced functionality, but at the cost of reliability. They have all the bells and whistles but may tend to stretch their abilities to produce a reliable product, while Panasonic seems to produce more reliable products. My first deck was a Panasonic portable, and is an old workhorse, I later bought JVC top-of-the-line console model, and lately it's been in the shop 4 times over the last 6 months for the same problem (it smokes, and they can't seem to fix it). I've yet to have ANY problem with the Panasonic. Glad to have it around while my JVC is in the shop. Keith Doyle {ucbvax, decvax}!trwrb!cadovax!keithd
