Stanford EE-CF currently operates a DEC-2060, five VAX-780 UNIX systems, and a number of MC68000 based Ethernet "tips" and gateways, all connected to the Stanford Ethernet. The UNIX systems programmer will aid the senior systems staff in the development, installation, and maintenance of new software facilities. He or she will share responsibility for the hiring, training, and supervision of student staff. Some user consultation is also involved. Considerable opportunity exists for independent development projects. The successful applicant will have one or more years experience with the UNIX environment and the C programming language. Experience with kernel modification and ethernet-based LAN's is desirable, but not necessary. Experience with other operating systems such as TOPS-20 or VAX/VMS is desirable. The applicant must be a self starter and capable of working closely with other people.
