The output/input of these programs is in Sun standard rasterfile format (described in /usr/include/rasterfile.h). It is not difficult to compose a spooler output filter to translate this format into whatever format a particular printer desires for raster image data. Sun does not generally supply the printer-specific output filters. Imagen does supply this software for connecting their printers to Suns, as part of Sun's third party program, and they include a screendump output filter [perhaps "will include", and it's not on the Imagen software tape you already have?].
