Having just purchased a 1984 Mercury Topaz, I am interested in hearing
from others with the same car. Aside from the poor dealer-air installation,
I find that it "aint bad for a Ford". Except for a list of minor annoyances
(very poor sun visors, annoying shift light, insufficient travel in the
front suspension - it bottoms out in rather small ruts in the road), I
find the car nice to drive. Steering is responsive, and brakes are
excellent.  Before break in I found the engine rather sluggish, but it
seems to be improving  with mileage. I am still disappionted with the
fuel mileage, however  -- getting around 22 with a 5-speed, while
I get 27-29 with a VW Dasher.
