There is a switch mounted on the bottom of the transmission that is only activated (or deactivated) when you shift into 5th gear. Simply pull off the connector, and then no more shift light!! I actually removed the switch, and pulled the wiring harness (that went to the switch) up into the engine compartment and tied it out of the way. The switch is easily accessable from below, so good luck!
