We are all sinners, and thus if we are poisoned it is a clear indication that God is unhappy with our sins. Because of this, also, it is perfectly alright to kill people, because they deserve it anyway. (Especially if they are particularly sinful people, i.e, people of other religons.) Animals, however, cannot sin, because it was only Man who tasted the forbidden apple of Knowledge, and thus we cannot kill them with a clear conscience as we can do with men.
