During booting the APPLE ][ logo changes to aPPLE ][, or a single extraneous character , usually ! but sometimes ) 0 ` appears on the line below the logo. This aberration is often in the display as it comes up, but sometimes appears within the first second or so after booting an empty drive (afterr the head zeros). If a disk is in the drive, it often boots incorrectly during such behavior. Looks like a memory problem, but the bits involved differ. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any guesses at the solution? Additional info: Once a successful boot occurs I can do RAM checks all day with no problem and can do a PR#6 successfully. It appears to be a cold boot problem.
