The singular of broccoli, as any Italian knows, is broccolo.
(Of course, Gordon Moffet will point out that broccoli is
no longer an Italian word, so that *he* can make up the singular
any way he likes.--Just joking! But remember that "coliseum"
is *not* a Latin word, while "datum" is.)
