As for rail service, The Crescent, leaving New York at
about 2:30 PM, is rather comfortable and convenient
(not to scenic, though), and arrives in Atlanta at
about 6:30 PM the next day.

Of course, you can take almost any train from Boston to
New York.  The 8:40 AM Colonial from Boston should
give you quite enough time to change.
