I started R/C in 1967, my son was in high school. We decided that if he would build a plane, I would build the R/C system. We started with a Heathkit GD-47 system and still have it. It has the old bonner sticks. Compared to the modern day system, it is a drag, but was our pride and joy at that time. Our plane was a Goldberg Senior Falcon at that time, and my son still has one. I fiddle with helicopters mostly, but still fly fixed wing once in a while so as not to get out of practice. I have not purchased any of the new radio systems, although I am giving it serious thought. I currently fly my machines using a Royal Electronics system on 53.1 as I have a ham license (W9LXP) and am about the only guy in the club that does. I have been shot down a couple of times by the National Guard, they use the six meter band also. We have two blacktop runways also, N-S and NE/SW since that is where most of the winds are in our locality. Our site is on an old land fill. We are on our sixth year there, so have things fixed up quite nice. We are going to put in a R/C track in the spring, we think it will help the local kids get out of the parking lots and streets and there are also guys in our club interested in it, although I am not sure that I will get into it. I guess that is it for now, I am burned out and am going to bed for some ZZZZZs. Talk to you later. Al Irwin 1312 W. Hill St. Champaign, Il 61821
