	Here's this year's bowl game lineup, in a format palatable to
cal(1):

12/15	California, 4 pm, Toledo vs. UNLV
12/15	Independence, 8 pm, Virgina Tech vs. Air Force
12/21	Holiday, 9 pm, BYU vs. Michigan
12/22	Florida Citrus, 1 pm, Florida State vs. Georgia
12/22	Sun, 3 pm, Tennessee vs. Maryland
12/22	Cherry, 4 pm, Michigan State vs. Army
12/26	Freedom, 8 pm, Iowa vs. Texas or Houston
12/27	Liberty, 8:30 pm, Arkansas vs. Auburn or Louisiana State

	And some picks:

	Brigham Young deserves to be in a better bowl against better
competition; something like the Gator, Sugar, or Cotton...they will probably
be annoyed at not having the chance to play for the National Championship,
and will vent this annoyance on a mediocre Michigan team that has no
business in *any* bowl game this year.  BYU by a bundle.

	The Freedom bowl will be a cruncher; Texas winds up there if they
don't make the Cotton; same for Houston.  Look for physical football, with
Iowa pulling it out, by a FG.

	Notre Dame has had an up-and-down season; they're another team with
no business in a bowl game.  Doesn't matter if SMU or Texas shows up;
Gerry Faust is going to have a long winter after being demolished on national
television.  SMU (or Texas) by 4 TD's.

	Boston College (and Miami) showed massive offense (>1200 yards)
Friday; look for BC to make life really difficult for the defensive backs
of whoever winds up being SW conference champion.  BC by 3 TD's.

	Miami will take out the frustration of losing to BC on the last
play of the game by whomping UCLA, especially if UCLA's defense doesn't
improve.  Miami by 2 TD's.

	USC had a horrible day in the rain against Notre Dame; look for
them to bounce back and hit Ohio State hard.  But--Ohio St. has Heismann
candidate Keith Byars, who runs over defensive linemen, backs, referees,
and anything else between him and the goal line.  Ohio State to win,
if Byars stays healthy, by a TD.

	Oklahoma-Washington; could this be the National Championship?
Should be a good one; Washington to win with stiff defense--barely, by a FG.

	And, finally, Purdue-Virginia.  Purdue has never lost a bowl game;
not likely that they'll start this year, provided they keep turnovers to
a minimum and get good play from their special teams.  Purdue by a TD.
I certainly hope so at least; I plan on being there.
