I paid particular attention to the end after they were returned to the planet. All did beam up at once. I will hazard a guess that the transporter beam picked up all, but only materialized six, then the seventh person. The episode did not show their return to the ship, just showing when the Enterprise left the planet. One person on the net mentioned something about scrambling the signal with another person. I would say that this is impossible when the transporter is functioning without any damage. A case in point being during the episode (I believe it is titled "The Enterprise Incident", but I am not sure) when Kirk and Spock receive orders to capture a cloaking device from the Romulans (after their treaty with the Klingons). Chekov was searching for Spock with the sensors. When he found him, the transporter locked onto him and beamed him back to the Enterprise. The Romulan commander realized this and threw her arms around Spock and was transported also. They did not get "mixed" during the transportation, so I would say that the transporter is very precise in materializing whatever is caught in it's beams! "Live Long and Prosper!" Michael N.
