Currently on my system it takes just a little over 1 tape per drive. With dump I have to use 2 tapes per drive. I am looking for a way that I can put the files on one after each other, no matter what drive they are on. Now I know if I had a crash I would have to use restor, but this is not for the system, but for the user filesystems( currently 3 of them). It would also be nice if I could save a listing of what files were put on, so as to keep a data base of files->tapes. With dump. you do the dumps, then go back and dump the tape. Slow. Cpio for all the files is to slow. I am looking for a program that goes through /dev/rxp?? & looks at /etc/mtab for where what is mounted where. I was going to write my own but thought I would see who has anything. Any suggestions let me know.
