From what I've read it has more to do with what he did to his amp to get the blessings of the golden ear fraternity..he made it have a non-flat frequency response to match that of ...the Levenson (?). THis same gimmick sells speakers. It sold JBL's for years. ...and Altecs. ...and will go on selling things......"Hark! listen carefully!
