It seems that CD players, PCM audio systems and possibly other digital audio-equipment (say a digital equilizer) will need digital interconnections, defering the D-to-A conversion to the last point in the chain (this could be an active Box with one DAC/filter/power-amp for each speaker system, where the band-splitting and individual equilization is done digitally -- think VLSI). To be more precise: 1) Is there a CD-player available that has a connector on the back that gives the stream of 16bit-words after the error-correction logic and before any filter/over-sample operation? 2) Is there a PCM encoder that accepts 16bit-words instead of an analog input? 3) Are there other digital audio-sources in use or planned (such as synthesizer, microphones [there are methods for precise analog-air-pressure to digital-electrical signal], etc) ?
