This could be improved.  Make well-insulated heaters, such as wire-wound
resistors, mount them in the battery cells, provide a switch to turn them
on.  The battery would heat itself directly.  Or, you could get a short
length of heavy cable and short out the battery for a couple of seconds :-) .
