Message-ID: <390@hou2g.UUCP> Date: Thu, 24-Jan-85 12:09:53 EST Article-I.D.: hou2g.390 Posted: Thu Jan 24 12:09:53 1985 Date-Received: Fri, 25-Jan-85 21:13:10 EST Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Holmdel NJ Lines: 23 It is obvious that the "draws don't count" format is no guarentee of an exciting championship match. Why not add something akin to the doubling cube in backgammon? Doubling would raise the stakes by challenging ones oppenent to - win - challenger gets an additional point for draw acceptor gets additional point for win. draw - (i.e. not lose) challenger gets additional point for win acceptor gets extra point for draw. Declining a challenge would consititue a loss. The cube could start out with black who might "double" by challenging white to win ("You can't beat me!"). This would put white in a position of having to play for a win for 2 points, with black getting 1 point for either a win or a draw. White could respond with a challenge to draw ("Sure I beat you!"). Which would give him 3 points for a win and black 2 points for a draw or win. Sound reasonable? Jim
