Now its $48 a month. ---------- News flash for you {:-)}: The breakup of AT&T was not AT&T's idea. AT&T was not psyched to be broken up. There was this really nasty court suit that went on for years. AT&T fought reasonably hard against the idea. Whether you care to describe the end result as "AT&T lost the fight" is arguable, based on the outcome of a variety of indirectly-related issues. I found this really neat quote lying around in a file the other day, and it's particularly relevant here. I'm sure most everyone has seen some variation on this before, but nonetheless... ----- There are in this country two very large monopolies. The larger of the two has the following record: the Vietnam War, fuel and energy shortages, bankrupt airlines and the 22-cent postage stamp. The second is responsible for such things as the transistor, the solar cell, lasers, synthetic crystals, high fidelity stereo recording, sound motion pictures, radio astronomy, negative feedback, magnetic tape, magnetic "bubbles," electronic switching systems, microwave radio and tv relay systems, information theory, the first electrical digital computer, and the first communications satellite. Guess which one is now going to tell the other how to run the telephone business? ----- I think we all know the answer... -- Karl Kleinpaste @ Bell Labs, Columbus 614/860-5107 +==-> cbrma!kk @ Ohio State University 614/422-0915 osu-eddie!karl
