Re not hitting your dog:  I've modified the 'f' and 'F' commands to never
attack a monster that you know about -- that is, not invisible or hidden.
So, if you customarily use 'f' and 'F' (or control-move like I do), you will
never attack your dog (or the nymph ...).  If you really want to attack
something, you can use the normal or shifted move commands.
