Firstly, the clump of gold is known as a vault and is a 2 x 2
room.  There are no doors in vaults, so the following are some
of the ways of getting into vaults.

    1) Fall through a trapdoor from a level above.

    2) Teleport into the vault.

    3) Use a wand of digging to make a passage into the vault.

If you propose using methods 1 and 2, be sure you can get out
again! Otherwise unpleasant things will happen to you.
Method 3 is the safest way of getting gold from a vault.
