This explains certain things that happen when you faint. 2) If you drop all your magic items before attacking an N, then the N can hit you more than once without dissapearing, just like a normal monster. This gives you time to dispatch it. Of course, it's usually not practical to drop all that stuff, which is why this note counts as trivia. 3) If you have very little gold, then an L can take it all. I suspect that it works on the basis of a random number, with no account taken of how much gold you have. If the number is greater than your supply, you lose it all. If you have no gold, and an L hits you, it disappears anyway, unlike N's. 4) N's are created with no treasure when a create monster scroll or polymorph wand is used. L's so created drop gold when killed. 5) It is possible for a polymorph wand to turn an X into an X. This is dissapointing, and sometimes fatal. 6) You don't regenerate hit points when in battle, even when fighting an R or L. Thus, you can't 'rest' by letting an R hit you. 7) I get the feeling that firing a drain life wand into a doorway only drains from the monster standing right in front of you - you have to be in the room to get the whole roomful. 8) I find that my commonest fatal error is the 'one hit too many' syndrome in which I either don't realize how low my HP are, or think I can take one more hit from the monster than I actually can. Anybody else find the same thing? 9) I like to keep even bad or useless magic items around as 'nymph bait'. N's will steal anything magic, even if it's bad, so keeping the bad stuff reduces (slightly) the chance that your good stuff will get ripped off should you fight an N and lose. 10) If a U doesn't confuse you on the first hit, it won't thereafter. 11) Once I zapped a sleeping monster with an unknown wand. The monster turned into what looked like a moving potion (a ! that moved toward me). Some part of the program must have thought it was a potion because when I tried to shoot it with arrows, the arrows just went right past and hit the far wall, as if there were no monster there. Of course, the wand was of polymorph, and the moving potion was a mimic, as became clear when it reached me, turned into an M, and beat on me. Still, you should be allowed to shoot at potions, if you want, especially if they are monsters. 12) A *CHALLENGE*: Find a good use for a 'teleport to' wand, other than as a wimpy missile weapon or nymph bait. I have not yet succeeded. {BTL}!charm!mam
