No.  This is something a lot of people believe.  (Especially those who
believe that on the 0th day God created the VAX ... and on days 1-7,
'cuz He liked it so much.)  It is, as you say, an ethnocentrism, and a
hindrance to portable code.  It is  n o t  true.	;-S
