Lines: 8 The passage from "Appalachian Spring" is taken from the hymn that starts "Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free." Copland incorporated a portion of the song into his work and acknowledges the fact on one of his album covers. Is the title of the hymn "Simple Gifts"? It is a lovely song whose words I have heard but have forgotten. If anyone knows the words, I'd appreciate your mailing or posting them. Thank you.
