I propose the following abbreviations:

CSO - candidate SO, or Significant Other in only one direction.
XSO - ex SO
PSO - platonic SO, when absence of sex needs to be emphasized; this
      would really be a special case of an SO since I don't think SO
      should ALWAYS imply sex.
