Let's start a new fun subject. Where are the good places to dance in different cities? It takes a while to work through the dance clubs to find one you like. Here I'm looking for hard rock and new wave; high-energy dancing. In San Francisco, the I-Beam is one of the best places; this is a dance place that happens to serve liquor, not a bar with a dance floor. There's almost no place to sit down; you have to dance; that's what makes it fun. Lots of outrageous outfits. Opens at 9 PM, but nothing happens before 10:30; closes at 2 AM. (Great for night-oriented computer types). Mostly gay on Sunday nights, otherwise male-female. Usually busy but not too jammed for movement on Friday and Saturday nights. All recorded music, with totally irrelevant videos and laser shows. (Live music on Monday nights.) Usually $5 admission. John Nagle
