That's good, 'cause we bite. :-) <<< FLAME ON >>> OK, I've had it with this ridiculous idea of creating a new newsgroup for one person, and with all the jerks who are playing "kick Jeff". Grow up, people! What makes you better than he is, huh? And don't say that he posts "inappropriate articles", and that you don't, because it's YOU JERKS that are posting the inappropriate articles. You say you don't want to read articles about people's personal problems? Well just unsubscribe to net.singles and any other group having anything to do with people, and restrict your reading to net.androids, ok? <<< flame off >>> (gee, this article was a lot cooler the first time, before rn threw it in a black hole! oh well.) Now, let's look at this problem coolly and rationally. There are a lot of articles posted to net.singles. On many assorted topics, most of which are somehow remotely connected to being single. This USED to be an extremely nice, supportative group. Now everyone's yelling at each other. Bad news, ya know? Jeff's articles, and the followups they generate, have been causing a good bit of unrest lately. They are also a significant percentage of net.singles traffic at times. So some people want to give Jeff his own little newsgroup, to get him and his friends out of their hair. Other's have suggested that they use their 'n' key, or have rn kill these articles. Well, 'n'-ing articles is a pain if there are a lot of them, especially at 1200 baud and/or on a slow machine. The rn program isn't availaible on every machine, and cannot do a perfect job of screening anyway. It has also been suggested that we do our corresponding with Jeff via mail. Hey folks, we *have*. But much of the discussion *is* suitable for the net, as it can be useful to others. (speaking of which, yes Jeff, I know I owe you mail. I'll get to it. -sigh-) So let's look into splitting off some of net.singles into another group. Now, there are other topics that people don't want to see in net.singles besides Jeff. (Unfortunately, I didn't save a copy of Chuq's survey.) I see two reasons that people are objecting to Jeff's articles. One is Jeff's estensive use of "yes, but" as an answer. The other is that Christianity is an integral part of the discussion, and many people just don't want to read about anything even remotely related to Christianity. There are also quite a few other articles dealing with life as a Christian single, and the Christaphobics object to these as well. And there is a lot more discussion which just doesn't happen simply because neither net.singles nor net.religion.christian seems like the right place. So, HERE'S THE BEEF: How about net.singles.christian ? Most or all of the Jeff-related discussion could take place there, as well as all the other Christian-singles related discussions. There is certainly enough traffic to warrent this group, and it would greatly decrease irritation of the Christaphobes and the flames resulting therefrom. There are other possibilities for the name, such as net.singles.religion.christian, or net.religion.christian.singles, but these are rather long.
